The plunger is made of stainless steel, making it near impossible to leverage. As soon as you reach 90 degrees the basket just falls out.
Using it is another matter. This tea infuser is definitely brilliant, although only in idea.
Second, the basket itself is very flimsy and extremely hard to stay securely in the pot when pouring. First, the fuse basket is poorly designed.
I don't think it gives loose tea enough room to fully brew. You cannot hold onto the lid to keep it in place as you pour because it is very hot.
All in all, a horrible product.
This pushes the leaves to the bottom of the basket, and seals them in so they don't continue infusing the tea. If you prefer loose tea to tea bags, and enjoy tea at the office, this is the way to do it. The Bodum Assam 4-Cup Tea Press makes brewing perfect tea from loose tea leaves both fun and simple. You have perfect tea, that doesn't grow bitter, and the leaves are contained so that they can be easily disposed of. The basket easily holds five teaspoons of loose tea (one per cup plus "one for the pot"). Pour in hot water, wait four to five minutes and press down the plunger. It makes enough tea so that you can serve tea to a visitor and even offer "seconds." Everything rinses out easily, too. I have one for the office and one at home.te
I have been using this teapot for nearly a year and I love it. The strainer works very well to trap the loose tea leaves, and the plunger seal is still strong so it effectively stops brewing when the tea reaches the desired strength. The glass tea pot and the plastic tea leaf holder are both dishwasher safe (in the top rack) and come out of the dishwasher sparkling.I was a little worried that the glass seemed thin but I haven't broken or cracked it yet.I would buy this for a fellow tea lover with no hesitation. It would make a great gift (particularly if packaged with some loose tea).
I received this pot as a gift from a friend of mine about a year and a half ago and after almost daily use over that time, I have no complaints whatsoever about this pot. The high-grade Dragonwell does not lose its delicate flavour or have extra flavour added to it from the other two. The basket does stain - I would expect this - but in my experience does not retain even strong flavours as long as you keep it clean and wash it between uses. I usually pump the press a few times while steeping to encourage water circulation. It's a great little teapot. This is NOT a good pot for preparing tea that is as finely cut as the tea you see in bagged tea; I tend to drink only loose leaf teas and I buy all my teas from Stash Tea Company. Most of the time I indulge in their fantastic Earl Green or Dragonwell teas, but I will also occasionally make their black peach tea, which is phenomenal. It brews an excellent cup of tea and in whatever strength you desire - just keep an eye on the colour and press when done. I make all my tea in the same pot.
Despite the strainer being made of plastic, none of the teas - two of which are very distinctly flavoured - have "flavour-stained" the basket. My peach doesnt taste like bergamot from the Earl Green; my Earl Green doesnt taste like peaches. It would have been very nice to have a high-quality mesh basket instead, but the plastic does very well.I would recommend this pot to any tea aficionado, and will definitely buy it again once this pot wears out or breaks. I drink large mugs and get roughly three servings from this pot.
My husband likes tea and he uses this whenever we don't have coffee. You have to boil water in another pot for use in this teapot since it is a French Press teapot.
